A former strategy executive and Marine turned executive coach and organizational consultant, Tyson is the originator and chief architect of LeadershipSOPs – a ground-breaking leadership methodology and framework that encourages leaders to develop and deploy standard operating procedures to structure, operate and perfect their communities of effort.
In his new book, From Expert to Executive: Mastering the SOPs of Leading, Tyson highlights the power of focusing first on the actual work of leading before concentrating on the complicated world of interpersonal skills and leadership styles (e.g. teaching a football quarterback sportsmanship does not explain the or position or how to play the game).
Before starting PerSynergy Consulting in 2013, Tyson accumulated 20 years of leadership experience in a range of military, non-profit, private and publicly traded organizations. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Pennsylvania State University. After graduation, he attended Temple University while working as the director of education for a healthcare trade association, earning a Master of Education degree in adult organization development. During his professional career, he held executive positions in process improvement as well as strategy development and led functional areas ranging from spend management and corporate marketing. Since making the move to external consulting, his experience has been just as diverse, with clients across a variety of sectors such as energy, healthcare, medical devices, biotech, gaming and legal services.
A master facilitator, Tyson has worked hand-in-hand with boards, leadership teams and C-level leaders from around the country to assess and correct issues ranging from solvency to strategy. He is a tested executive coach and an individual, group and organizational development expert. He has led multi-million-dollar change initiatives impacting tens of thousands of employees, developed strategic plans for companies of all sizes and sophistication and completed scores of strategic reorganizations.
Knowledge and experience aside, Tyson attributes much of his success with teams to his ability to leverage empathy to see people-puzzles from multiple perspectives, think quickly but react calmly, and reframe even the toughest of discussions. He brings a unique blend of positive energy, calm intensity and humor to serious discussions which require rapid resolution.
Tyson lives in Southern California with his wife and the youngest of his two sons.
